Cake Smash Photography Sessions are the ultimate way to celebrate your baby turning one. This session is so much fun with yummy cake, icing, giggles and lots of mess. I style cake smash sessions in a minimalist and simple way to ensure your baby is the star and focus.
My 5 step process is super easy and relaxing from the moment you contact me to when you collect your gorgeous images, album or wall art. And best of all we will become great friends along the way.

What shoule we expect?
WHERE ARE cake SESSIONS HELD?
I expect us to have fun and laughs! This is a fun way to shoot your baby, expect lots of mess, eating and a fast session. At this age babies become tired quickly, especially when there is of activity. To ensure your baby does not get too tired I allow your baby to lead the session and I let them explore and have fun. Rest assured that I will capture all the images smiles and little details of the day.
Cake smash sessions are held in my home studio in Malvern East, Melbourne. The studio is the perfect environment as it is clean, warm, calm and has the best natural light, the perfect mix to capturing amazing baby photographs. The studio is open Monday to Fridays only. I do not work on weekends.
WHAT'S THE BEST AGE for cake smash sessions?
WHAT IF My baby doesn't eat the cake?
Cake smash are best photographed at around 10-12 months old as little ones do not yet have sensory issues with food (especially icing) and don’t mind getting a little messy.
Cake smashes are a great way to celebrate your baby’s upcoming first birthday and if done early enough you can definitely use the images for their 1st birthday invitations.
The majority of babies do not eat the cake. But you will see that I get amazing photos no matter what. With years of experience I have the skills to capture all the special moments. Please note that I do not reschedule or reshoot if your baby does not eat the cake or get messy.
If your baby does not turn their cake into a big pile of mess, that is ok. I am still able to catch the fun of them poking around or carefully picking up bits of decorations or icing. Many times we strategically place a little icing here and there and even have parents smash the cake up for them. So be ready to get your hands and clothes dirty too!
How long does a cake session go for?
Cake smash sessions can take approximately 30 min to 1 hour. Please note if you’re taking family pictures and booked a bath session too that this may vary.
CAN WE HAVE A FAMILY PHOTOGRAPH TOO?
If you are wanting a quick family image before the cake smash this can be added. Please note this will be just a couple of quick images as we do not want the baby over stimulated too early because this will make them tired and then may bring on tears. If you wanted a full family session, it is best to book a different package on another day.
WHAT DO WE WEAR TO OUR SESSION?
Once you’ve paid your deposit and signed your contract we will email you the baby preparation guide which is full of amazing information. What to expect, what to bring, styling information and so much more. This ensures that your session is flawless and of course so easy. CAN SIBLINGS BE INCLUDED IN THE CAKE SMASH?
Melbourne cake smash photography sessions are only intended for the one baby. It is a special day for them and having older siblings may distract them from exploring and having a play.
DO YOU include the cake & DECORATIONS
Yes I do. Please note that my cake smash sessions are very minimalistic. I want to ensure that your baby is the main star and all the little details are not lost in clutter. I will capture all those smiles, crumbs stuck to legs, icing smudged everywhere and pure joy.
Before your session we will discuss the theme, colours and work together to create an amazing session. If your child has allergies we can discuss this before your session and ensure your cake is allergen free.
DO you offer baby bath photography?
Yes I do. Baby bath is captured after your cake smash. A cute way of capturing your baby getting clean after eating cake. I have a gorgeous white claw bath tub or old wash basin to capture these sweet moment. We can either have bubbles, milk bath or fruit bath.
Bath time are my ultimate favourite images of babies at every session. There is something so calming about babies in a warm bath. It makes every baby smile, giggle and have fun. Every client has always fallen in love with their baby’s bath images.
