We are now in week 6 in the Covid Lockdown and I don’t know about you but I am making a list of all the places we can visit in Melbourne once this is all over. I can’t wait to be free and go view all the top spots in and around Melbourne. So, whether you have a mobile phone, compact camera or book someone like me Melbourne photography family shoots is what I want everyone to. So get out of your active wear, get into some nice clothes and get shooting.
This lockdown has taught us we don’t need to go far to get away, have a beautiful break and enjoy our surroundings with our loved ones. We have an amazing city so Melbourne photography shoots is what we all need to be doing. To help you all, I have listed below are some of the top spots in and around Melbourne:
Melbourne CBD & Inner-City Locations
Flinders Street, Hamer Hall, Yarra River – These areas are just stunning to walk around and take in all the beauty it has to offer. In addition, you can visit them at different times of the day to reveal variations in light, sunset, etc. Take a stroll anywhere down the river and you will see how amazing Melbourne photography is.
Southern Cross Station – For something completely different, the station has amazing scenes. It has beautiful architectural elements. It is also beautiful to step up onto the first level for a beautiful view.
State Library of Victoria – This has the most impressive dome you will see and an amazing space for a quick photo.
Graffiti Lanes – Melbourne Photography and the lanes it has to offer are just spectacular.
Melbourne is renowned for its street art filled alleyways which can be found throughout the city and inner-city suburbs. Some of the most popular laneways in Melbourne are Hosier Lane, ACDC Lane, Caledonian Lane and Union Lane just to name a few.
Melbourne Botanical Gardens – This has to be one of the spectacular places we have and a never ending parkland for Melbourne Photography. You can go there in spring and summer for beautiful sunset images and of course in Autumn when all the colours are forever changing with leaves.
Fitzroy Gardens – Make sure you take your family here and walk through all the huge trees, secret little gardens and soak in all in. Your family will love this so much.
By the Sea
Albert Park Lake – Depending on the time of day you can get amazing sunset and beautiful reflections of the lake, sunset and landscape in the background too.
St Kilda Pier – You can get amazing images on the beach, off the pier to get a city backdrop or the marina. The options are limitless here. There is also a walking path on the west end of the beach which makes for beautiful images.
Port Melbourne – Princess Pier has the most stunning spots to capture beautiful and unique Melbourne photography.
Black Rock / Beaumaris – Both these areas offer gorgeous sea locations for Melbourne photography and beautiful sunsets locations.
Altona Beach and Foreshore – This area has everything you want, long beach, pier and beautiful sunsets for Melbourne Photography.
Williamstown Beach and gardens – This is a great spot as you can get beach images and a short drive can find some gardens and get a great mix of family photo shoots.
Great Ocean Road – As you may be aware the coastline and inland waterfalls is a never ending little haven. This is just a never ending and perfect landscape. Some of the you can visit is Marriners Falls, Hopetoun Falls, Apollo Bay, Wye River, 12 Apostles, Loch and Gorge.
Mornington Peninsula – As we know the morning peninsular is just one hour away from Melbourne and some stunning coastline locations to get Melbourne Photography and family sessions taken.
Some areas to visit are Cape Schanck, Rye Back beach, London Bridge, Sorrento, Point Leo, Flinders, Portsea and of course Mt Martha. Along the way you will find loads of jetties, beaches, rock formations, rockpools, and of course stunning wineries too.
When I think Melbourne Photography, I always think it’s important to venture that little bit further and head to picturesque Yarra Valley and Dandenong Ranges. This region has such lush national surroundings. Some of the area worth visiting are Healesville, Marysville and Warburton.
Probably one of the best kept secrets is the forest of Californian Redwoods, which is a few kilometres outside Warburton.
Then in neighbouring Dandenong Ranges, there are loads of photographic spots here. You can also climb aboard Puffing Billy for an alternative perspective of secluded cottages, sun-kissed gardens and vast national parks.
After that you can visit some other places such as Sassafras and Olinda
Tips for preparing your family photo shoot
- Bring along something to drink in case your kids get thirsty.
- The best time for light is 1 hour to 30 mins before sunset, so do well to feed your kids beforehand.
- Bring along a toy for the little ones in order to keep them occupied (ensure to keep the colours coordinating with your styling choice)
- Put on comfortable shoes, just in case you are required to walk some distance.
- Pack some extra clothes, just in case there is an accident or it gets too hot.
I look forward to seeing everyone’s social media pages flooded with loads of images of where you visit with your family. If you have any other places for Melbourne Photography for families, please do share with me.
